1.3 Biographical notes

Umberto Verde (1946-2013) was born in Naples and he graduated from Facoltà di Lettere e filosofia at the University of Naples. Then he specialized in cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy and psychosociology of work and organization in Italy and abroad. From 1969 to 2003, he worked for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of work-related distress and work psychopathology in food, logistics, automotive, aerospace companies, credit institutions, clinics. He helped local authorities developing strategic plans and directional consulting and training companies, with both specialist roles and managerial roles. From 1980 to 1992, he also visited several countries around the world for his researches on social, legal, economic, and international issues. Moreover, since 1977, he taught Organizational Sociology at Business schools, Specialization Schools, and other institutions. He was a psychologist and psychotherapist, registered with the Order of Psychologists. He was also a member of  of the Italian Society for Psychopathology, the International Society for Neuro-Psychoanalysis, and the Association for the Study and Development of Jungian Thought.

1.4 Date and methods of acquisition

The Umberto Verde collection was donated to the University of Urbino Carlo Bo by his brother-in-law, Roberto Serino, on November 4, 2013.

1.5 Collection history

The architect Roberto Serino, Umberto Verde's brother-in-law, donated the collection to the University of Urbino in accordance with the testamentary will of his sister Rossana Serino (Umberto Verde's wife), who died on October 17, 2013. The indication was "that the unified body of volumes transferred to the University of Urbino had be marked "Fondo Umberto Verde" in future memory of a passionate scholar who dedicated much of his life to Psychology of work" (Roberto Serino, donation letter to the University of Urbino, November 4, 2013). Since its arrival, the fund has been placed at the Umanistica Library.

No further material is expected to be added to the collection.

The collection was given to the University without any kind of documentation, after a preliminary assessment  conducted by Dr. Enrica Veterani.
