1.3 Biographical notes 

Sergio Guerra (Modena 1955-Jesi 2020) was, for over twenty years a contract professor and research fellow in English Literature at Scuola di Lingue Straniere ​​of the University of Urbino. He also organized theatrical performances and concerts and actively took part in the Erasmus program and summer schools for foreigner students. He contributed to the foundation of the Summer School in British and Anglo-American Cultural Studies, which now bears his name. Moreover he was one of the founding members of the Rewind series (Aras). Guerra was the author of many essays and articles and he published some seminal volumes in the field of cultural studies: among these, Introduzione agli studi culturali britannici (Parnaso 2002); Figli della diaspora: romanzo e multiculturalità nella Gran Bretagna contemporanea (1950-2014) (Aras 2014); Il potere della cultura. Origini, evoluzione e diffusione dei (British) Cultural Studies (Aras 2017). Some of his essays were collected by his colleagues Alessandra Calanchi and Ya-fang Chang under the title Cultura futura. Saggi 2003-2020 (Aras 2021). That same year his novel Non doveva essere amore. Da Pesaro a Melbourne (via L.A.) (Ventura) was published in a bilingual edition.

1.4 Date and methods of acquisition

The Sergio Guerra Collection was donated by the heirs, Stefania Acacia Scarpetti and Claudio Galeazzi.

1.5 History of the Collection 

The 347 monographs, mostly concerning British Cultural Studies, were donated after the death of Sergio Guerra by the heirs to Biblioteca di Lingue of the University of Urbino through a letter dated June 29, 2020. Dr. Yafang Chang and Simonetta Badioli, under the supervision of Prof. Alessandra Calanchi, compiled a list of scientific texts intended for the University. The material, that was contained in 18 boxes, was transported from Pesaro and deposited in the office of the Librarian, Dr. Michele Bartolucci. He was the one who inventoried and cataloged the monographs, arranging them alphabetically by author on the shelves of Professor Guerra’s study. The material related to music, including books and CDs, was donated to Biblioteca Oliveriana in Pesaro.

No further material is expected to be added to the collection.

1.7 Collection indexing

The collection was catalogued from the initial list provided by Dr. Yafang Chang and Dr.Simonetta Badioli. The catalog is available for consultation on the National Library System (opac.sbn.it) and the Polo SBN Marche Nord, as well as on the University's OPAC.

The collection is composed by 347 monographs.

The materials in the collection reflect Guerra's work as a scholar and lecturer in the field of British Cultural Studies, Postmodernism, Postcolonial Literature, Black British and Asian British studies, Multiculturalism, Gender Studies, and Englishness.

Just as important can be considered the texts related to pop and rock music, of which he was an expert and also a talented performer.
