1.3 Biographical notes
Luigi Meschieri (1919-1985) was born in Bologna. In 1942, he graduated in Medicine, with a a specialization in Occupational Medicine. He obtained a postgraduate degree in Psychology in 1951 and, two years later, he joined the CNR Institute of Psychology. He professor of forensic psychology at the Carabinieri Officers' School for a while; then, in 1959, he was started working professor of Psychology for the University of Urbino. In 1960, he became Dean of the Facoltà di Magistero in Urbino (until 1974) and Director of the CNR Institute of Psychology (until 1969). From 1974 until his passing, he taught at Facoltà di lettere e filosofia at the University of Rome, and between 1973 and 1975, he was president of the Italian Psychological Society. He was particularly known for his studies in applied psychology, particularly on psychometrics and educational and vocational guidance. Other areas he studied includes forensic psychology and criminology, mental hygiene, school psychology, psychology of accidents, and “road traffic psychology”. He also focused on the university training of psychologists, contributing to the establishment of Psychology degree courses in Italy.

The Luigi Meschieri collection was donated to the University of Urbino in the late 1980s.

The collection was initially processed by Dr. Federico Marcucci; now, beside being catalogued in OPAC, it is located in Biblioteca Umanistica.

Luigi Meschieri’s archive was donated in February 2015 to the ASPI Research Center (Archivio storico della psicologia italiana of Milan-Bicocca University) by his widow, Ewa Kowalczyk.
