He attended mathematics and physics courses at the University of Bari, then he got a diploma for School Supervision and a degree in Pedagogy from the University of Urbino. In 1957, he obtained a licence to teach philosophy, history, pedagogy, psychology, and political economy in high school. He also attended in study groups of UNRRA-CASAS for social research in Abruzzo.

He focused his attention on pedagogical issues concerning adult education. He directed many cultural update courses for elementary school teachers and social update courses for continuing education and adult education. He was a member of Academia dei “500”. He contributed to pedagogical journals and cultural and scientific periodicals. He received numerous prizes, including the National Award for Children's Literature from ENBP.S., Rome 1958; the Educational Merit Award, from the homonymous foundation in Milan; the Award for the Study of the Environment from the publisher La Scuola, the AIMC Award for the national competition on the theme The School. He was a university professor of Methodology and General Education in Facoltà di Magistero at the University of Urbino. He took a particular interest in issues regarding pedagoglical renewal and experimentation in continuing education, in learning, and methodological organization of schools. He wrote numerous texts that in time have become both a foundations and an incentive for the training of many elementary and preschool teachers.

Labbrozzi’s family, twelve years after he passed away, donated many writings and books from the professor's personal library to Istituto Comprensivo Statale “L. Pirandello”, so that they could be available to those who wish to explore the history of pedagogy, methodology, and education of the last decades. He was awarded the honor of Cavaliere Ordine al Merito of the Italian Republic in 1994.

1.4 Date and methods of acquisition

The collection, after Edmondo Labbrozzi's passing, was donated to the University of Urbino on February 12, 2004 by his wife, Angelina Borsella, and his son, Felice Labbrozzi, by express wish of the scholar.

1.5 History of the Collection

The collection was developed following Professor Edmondo Labbrozzi’s studies, therefore it shows his specific areas of interest: pedagogy, psychology, education programming, and the teaching of scientific subjects, especially mathematics. It should be noted that the corpus of books received by the University of Urbino was probably selected by Labbrozzi himself. A significant portion of his library, likely focused on general literature, was donated to Istituto Comprensivo Statale “L. Pirandello”.

4. NOTES

4.1 Special notes and reports

Skimming through the books in Edmondo Labbrozzi's collection the deep connection he had with them stands out clearly: he signed each one of them on the title page, and noted the date and place of purchase. The books often feature dedications from the authors: from them Labbrozzi's cordial relationships and collaborations with scholars from all over Italy and even Europe transpire. The books contain annotations, underlinings, and personal thoughts regarding the contents. He usually added another date at the end of the text, indicating probably the end of the reading (often very close to the date of purchase). The intense relationship with his books and their connection with his work as a scholar is shown by the inclusion of notes, newspaper articles, conference pamphlets, and documentary material. The attached material is deeply relevant as it integrates the text, refers to the discussed topic, updates it, completes it, or refers to the author of that study: it creates a complex network of references. All of these materials have been noted in the catalogue description of the books in the “Internal Note” field.
