Giancarlo De Carlo (Genoa, December 12, 1919 - Milan, June 4, 2005) was an architect, urban planner, and architectural theorist know at an international level. Visit Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani by Treccani for a detailed biography.

1.4 Date and methods of acquisition

La proposta di donazione del fondo è giunta il 28 febbraio 2020 da parte di Anna De Carlo e degli architetti Monica Mazzolani e Antonio Troisi per la Giancarlo De Carlo Associati di volumi e riviste di architettura e urbanistica appartenuti a Giancarlo De Carlo e conservati a Milano nella sede dello studio Giancarlo De Carlo e Associati e MTA Associati.

1.5 Collection history

The books were located in De Carlo’s studio in Milan and arrived in Urbino in the spring of 2021. They are now house in a dedicated room on the first floor of Palazzo Passionei at the Fondazione Carlo e Marise Bo, the last palace whose restoration was overseen by De Carlo in Urbino.

No further material is expected to be added to the collection.

The collection was given to the University without any kind of documentation.

The collection, catalogued and made available to the public, can be accessed online and on open shelves.


2. DESCRIPTION

2.1 Extent

The collection holds more than 900 volumes and about 30 different sets of journal regarding architechture and urban planning, particularly on Urbino and its University.

2.2 Description identifier, organization, and placement

The collecion has maintained its autonomy and is divided, as for the books, into 37 sections (the original placement sections) and, as for the magazines, into 32 sections corresponding to the titles.

4.1 Special notes and reports

The volumes keep traces of the original placement system: topographical indications, stamps, and original labels. The new placement system faithfully follows the previous one.
