1.3 Biographical notes
Aldo Venturelli (Rome, 1948) studied at La Sapienza University in Rome and got his PhD in 1971 with a dissertation titled Lavoro intellettuale e sistema capitalistico nel primo libro de “L'uomo senza qualità” di Robert Musil.
His academic career began in 1972. From 1979, he continued his work at the University of Urbino, and from 1990 he held the position of Full Professor. From 2000 to 2007, he served as Secretary General of the Italo-German Centre Villa Vigoni. He had many academic collaborations with foreign universities, particularly with the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the Technical University of Berlin, with research projects funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
In 2008, he was appointed Scientific Coordinator for the Italian section of the Italo-German Historical Commission.
From 2009 to 2011, he pursued researches at the National Academy of the Lincei in Rome and subsequently directed the Italian Cultural Institute in Berlin until 2015. In 2016, he got back to the University of Urbino and retired in 2018.
Aldo Venturelli was a member of several scientific committees. In recognition of his contributions to Italo-German relations, he has been awarded the Cross of Merit, 1st Class, of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic).
He has specialized in various areas of German literature and philosophy, from the 18th century to the early 20th century and literary modernism. Beside tohis studies on many 20th-century authors, he has made a particular contribution through his research on the works of Friedrich Nietzsche and Robert Musil. He is the author and co-author of numerous academic works and publications.
Alongside his many roles, Aldo Venturelli has carried out extensive research and wrote fundamental works in the field of German studies in Italy. These include a new approach to Musil research, explorations of Nietzsche's relationship with Vienna and psychoanalysis, in addition to major research projects such as the revision and re-edition of Nietzsche’s works and unpublished materials. This was done in collaboration with past and present members of the renowned Pisan philological school around Mazzino Montinari and Giorgio Colli.
At the same time, he studied the philosophy of the thinker from Naumburg alongside prominent international Nietzsche scholars such as Wolfgang Müller-Lauter and Ernst Behler.
11.4 Date and methods of acquisition
In the donation proposal of the "Rita and Aldo Venturelli Collection" to the Library of the University of Urbino Carlo Bo dated April 10, 2024, the donor requests that the volumes be assigned to the Biblioteca di Lingue “Leone Traverso” so that they may be useful for student education and scholarly research.
1.5 Collection history
The volumes come from the donor’s private collections in Ancona and Karlsruhe, and from the Italo-German Centre for European Dialogue at Villa Vigoni in Loveno di Menaggio (Como).

2.3 Type of materials
Works on German and Italian literary criticism and literature. Specific studies on Canetti, Döblin, Fried, Goethe, Hofmannsthal, Kafka, Kassner, Keller, Mann, Rilke, Schnitzler.
Historical and philosophical texts. A special section is dedicated to studies on Friedrich Nietzsche and Robert Musil.
The collection also includes a substantial number of art catalogues.
